Cabaret 1972 9 .6 Cabaret is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. Set in 1931 Berlin, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood"s 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin. The film focuses on the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around American cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young Englishman Brian Roberts. The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Director for Fosse, Best Actress for Minnelli, and Best Supporting Actor for Grey. It was nominated for four other Academy Awards and won five Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
