The film depicts the real-life mutiny on the Royal Navy vessel HMS Bounty led by Fletcher Christian against the ship"s captain, William Bligh. The film was directed by Lewis Milestone and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. It is the second American film to be made from the novel and the first with sound.
