Handan in China Handan is a prefecture-level city in Hebei Province, China. It is located in the southwestern part of the province, and is situated on the northern bank of the Huang He (Yellow River). It borders Xingtai on the north, and the provinces of Shanxi and Henan on the west and south respectively. Handan is one of the oldest cities in China, with a history dating back to the Zhou Dynasty (1046–256 BC). It is also one of the four Great Ancient Capitals of China, having been the capital of the Zhao State during the Warring States period (475–221 BC).
