It is situated in the Western Palatinate, on the river Glan, approx. 20 km northeast of Kaiserslautern and 20 km southwest of Kusel. The municipality is part of the Verbandsgemeinde Lauterecken-Wolfstein. The town of Hornbach is known for its historic castle, which was built in the 13th century and is still in good condition. The castle is now used as a museum and is open to the public. The town also has a beautiful old town center with many half-timbered houses and other historic buildings.
