Dragon Age Origins 1 Dragon Age: Origins is a role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. It is the first game in the Dragon Age franchise. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in November 2009, and for Mac OS X in December 2009. Set in the fictional kingdom of Ferelden during a period of civil strife, the game puts the player in the role of a warrior, mage, or rogue coming from an elven, human, or dwarven background. The player character is recruited into the Grey Wardens, an ancient order that stands against demonic forces known as "Darkspawn", and is tasked with defeating the Archdemon that commands them and ending their invasion. Dragon Age: Origins features a nonlinear narrative, taking the form of a "story within a story" that the player experiences from the perspectives of multiple characters. The game"s main plot takes around 80 hours to complete, while secondary quests and content can add a substantial amount of time to the overall experience. The player can choose from six different origin stories, allowing them to experience different parts of the game"s narrative. The game was met with critical acclaim, with many reviewers praising its story, characters, voice acting, and traditional role-playing mechanics.
