It is endemic to the Olt River in Romania, and is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. It is a small fish, reaching a maximum length of around 8 cm. Its diet consists mainly of insect larvae, small crustaceans, and plant material. It is threatened by pollution, habitat destruction, and competition from non-native species.
