Chilinidae 2 Chilinidae is a family of aquatic, ray-finned fish in the order Cypriniformes. They are native to freshwater habitats in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. They are commonly known as airbreathing catfish, due to their ability to breathe atmospheric oxygen. Chilinids are small fish, typically reaching a maximum length of 10 cm (4 in). They have a variety of body shapes, ranging from slender and elongated to more rounded and compressed. The family contains five genera, including Chilodus, Chiloglanis, Chilatherina, Chilobagrus, and Chilomycterus.
