Daspletosaurus Toros us Daspletosaurus torosus is a species of tyrannosaurid dinosaur that lived in western North America during the Late Cretaceous period, about 77 to 74 million years ago. It was one of the last and largest tyrannosaurids, and is known from several specimens, including a nearly complete skeleton. It was closely related to the earlier species Tyrannosaurus rex, and is thought to have been its direct ancestor. Daspletosaurus was a large and heavily built predator, measuring up to 9 meters (30 feet) long, and weighing up to 4 metric tons (4.4 short tons). It had a massive skull, with a pair of long, curved, serrated teeth in each side of the lower jaw. Its jaws were powerful enough to crush bone, and its teeth were designed to cut through flesh. Its eyes were positioned on the sides of its head, giving it good binocular vision.
