Hapalemur meridionalis Hapalemur meridionalis, also known as the southern gentle lemur, is a species of strepsirrhine primate in the family Lemuridae. It is endemic to Madagascar and is found in the southern and southwestern regions of the island. It is a medium-sized lemur with a body length of around 35–45 cm and a tail length of around 40–50 cm. It has a grayish-brown fur and white markings on its face, chest, and belly. It feeds mainly on leaves, flowers, and fruits, and can be found in both dry and moist forests. It is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation.
