It is a semi-aquatic mammal that lives in and around streams, ponds, and marshes. It is small, measuring only around 5 cm in length, and has a dark brown fur with white patches on its back. It feeds mainly on aquatic invertebrates such as insect larvae, molluscs, and crustaceans.
