Palaeontinodes separatus 2 Palaeontinodes separatus is a species of fossil bird from the early Cretaceous period of what is now China. It is the only species in the genus Palaeontinodes. It is known from a single fossil specimen, which was discovered in the Jiufotang Formation in Liaoning Province. The fossil consists of a partial skeleton with a skull, and it is thought to be a member of the Enantiornithes, a group of extinct birds that lived alongside the dinosaurs. Palaeontinodes separatus was a small bird, with an estimated body length of around 15 cm. It had a long, pointed beak, and its wings were relatively short and rounded.
