Valeseguyidae Valeseguyidae is a family of small, freshwater fish found in South America. They are members of the Characidae family, which includes the tetras, and are closely related to the piranhas. They are found in the Paraguay, Parana, and Uruguay river basins. They are small fish, usually less than 5 cm (2 in) in length, and have an elongated body shape with a laterally compressed tail. They are usually brightly colored, with yellow, orange, or red markings on their bodies. They feed mainly on small insects and other invertebrates.
