Wojtek bear famous animal Wojtek (1942–1963) was a Syrian brown bear adopted by the Polish Army during World War II. He was officially enlisted in the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps, and quickly became a beloved mascot of the soldiers. After the war, Wojtek was brought to Scotland, where he lived out the rest of his life at the Edinburgh Zoo.
