john singer 3 John Singer (1868–1943) was an American Impressionist painter best known for his coastal scenes of New England. He was born in Taunton, Massachusetts, and studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, under the direction of Otto Grundmann. Singer was a member of the Ten American Painters, a group of American Impressionists who exhibited together from 1898 to 1918.
