Pella limbata Pella limbata is a species of freshwater mussel in the family Unionidae. It is native to the eastern United States, where it is found in the Tennessee, Cumberland, and Ohio River systems. It is listed as endangered in the United States. It is also known as the Cumberland monkeyface, Cumberland pigtoe, and the Cumberland river mussel. It is a medium-sized mussel, reaching up to 4 inches (10 cm) in length. It has a yellowish-green shell with a smooth, glossy surface. The shell has three distinct ridges and a yellowish-brown interior. The animal is found in shallow, fast-flowing rivers and streams, where it feeds on algae and other small organisms.
