Pleuropasta 2 Pleuropasta is a genus of bivalve mollusks in the family Cardiidae. They are found in shallow waters of the western Atlantic Ocean, from the Caribbean to the Gulf of Mexico. They have a thick, oval shell that is white to yellowish in color, with concentric growth lines and a smooth surface. The two valves are connected by a hinge and the shell is closed by a pair of adductor muscles. The shell is typically up to 4 cm (1.6 in) in length. The interior of the shell is lined with a thin layer of nacre. The animal has a pair of siphons that are used to draw in water for respiration and feeding.
