arms 0262 The coat of arms of the United Kingdom is the official heraldic symbol of the United Kingdom, and is used to represent the country and its people. It is a combination of the arms of England, Scotland, and Ireland, with the addition of a heraldic badge for the United Kingdom. The shield is quartered, depicting in the first and fourth quarters the three passant guardant lions of England; in the second, the rampant lion and double tressure flory-counter-flory of Scotland; and in the third, a harp for Ireland. The crest is a lion statant guardant, wearing the imperial crown, on the royal helmet, with a wreath of roses and shamrocks, and a scroll below with the motto "Dieu et mon droit" (God and my right). Supporters are two unicorns, each with a coronet and chain around the neck, and a banner of the Royal Arms. The whole is surrounded by the Garter, with the motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Shame be to him who thinks evil of it).
