Saint Spyridon Trimifuntsky , (Greek: Άγιος Σπυρίδων Τριμιφούντσκι) is a Greek Orthodox saint who is the patron saint of the island of Corfu in Greece. He is also known as the "Wonderworker of Corfu" and is venerated throughout the Greek Orthodox world. Saint Spyridon was born in the late 3rd century in the city of Askeia, in the region of Trimifuntsky in the Byzantine Empire. He was a shepherd and a simple man, but was known for his holiness and piety. He was ordained a priest by the Bishop of Trimifuntsky and served as a priest in the local church. Spyridon was known for his miracles and healings. He is said to have healed the sick, cast out demons, and even raised the dead. He is also said to have saved the island of Corfu from an invasion by the Saracens in the 9th century. Spyridon was canonized as a saint in the 9th century and his feast day is celebrated on December 12th. He is depicted in icons and religious art wearing a bishop"s vestments and holding a staff. He is often shown with a dove at his side, which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
