The Icon of the Mother of God of Tolga The Icon of the Mother of God of Tolga is a revered icon in the Russian Orthodox Church. It was found on August 8, 1314, on the banks of the Volga River near the Tolga Monastery in Yaroslavl, Russia. The icon depicts the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus in her arms. According to the legend, Bishop Prokhor of Rostov was traveling near the Volga River when he saw a bright light shining from an icon lying on the riverbank. He picked up the icon and brought it to the nearby Tolga Monastery. The icon is believed to have miraculous powers and has been credited with many healings. It is particularly venerated by women who are trying to conceive or who are praying for the health and safety of their children. The Tolga Icon of the Mother of God is celebrated three times a year: on August 8 (the day it was found), on September 8 (the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos), and on October 26 (the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos of Tolga).
