Priest Martyr Tigris , also known as Saint Tigris of Antioch, was a fourth-century Christian martyr from Antioch in Syria. He is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Churches. The story of his martyrdom is recounted in the Syriac Martyrology, which states that Tigris was a priest who was arrested and tortured by the Roman authorities for his Christian faith. He was eventually martyred by being thrown into the River Tigris, from which he took his name. Tigris is usually depicted in icons as a young man with a halo of martyrdom, holding a cross in one hand and a palm branch in the other. He is often shown standing in the river with the waters of the Tigris flowing around him.
