Liopleurodon 3 Liopleurodon is an extinct genus of large, carnivorous marine reptile belonging to the Pliosauroidea, a clade of short-necked plesiosaurs. It lived during the Callovian stage of the Middle Jurassic Period (160 to 155 million years ago). Its name means "smooth-sided teeth" and it is one of the largest pliosaurs known, reaching lengths of up to 6.4 meters (21 ft). It had a large head, long snout, and four large flippers. Its teeth were conical and smooth-sided, and its jaws were powerful enough to crush large prey.
