Hannibal Lecter 14 Hannibal Lecter is a fictional character created by author Thomas Harris. He is a brilliant, cannibalistic serial killer whose favorite pastime is consuming his victims. He first appeared in the novel Red Dragon (1981) and later in the sequels The Silence of the Lambs (1988) and Hannibal (1999). Lecter was portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in the 1991 film adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor.
