Invasion of the body snatchers- movie 1 Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a 1956 American science fiction horror film directed by Don Siegel, and starring Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter, Larry Gates, and King Donovan. The film is based on Jack Finney"s 1955 novel The Body Snatchers, and tells the story of an extraterrestrial invasion that begins in the fictional California town of Santa Mira. The aliens have the ability to replicate humans and replace them with emotionless duplicates. The film was released to critical acclaim and was a box office success. It has since become a cult classic and is widely regarded as one of the best science fiction films of all time. It was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1994.
