Gerald Bepko Gerald Bepko is an American academic administrator and former chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and received his bachelor"s degree from Case Western Reserve University and his master"s and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan. He began his career as a professor at the University of Michigan, and then moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was a professor and dean of the College of Education. In 1987, he was appointed chancellor of IUPUI, a position he held until 2002. During his tenure, he oversaw the growth of IUPUI, which became the largest university in Indiana and one of the largest urban universities in the United States. He also helped establish the Indiana University School of Medicine-IUPUI, the Indiana University School of Nursing-IUPUI, and the IUPUI Arts and Sciences Honors College. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Education.
