Pocahontas 3 Pocahontas was a Native American woman who was born around 1595 in what is now Virginia. She was the daughter of Powhatan, the chief of the Powhatan Confederacy. Pocahontas is best known for her relationship with Englishman John Smith, who she is said to have saved from execution. She later married John Rolfe and traveled to England with him, where she was received as an ambassador of her people. She died in 1617 at the age of 22.
