Acrocanthosaurus Acrocanthosaurus is a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived in North America during the Early Cretaceous period, about 125 million years ago. It was one of the largest predators of its time, measuring up to 11.5 meters (38 feet) in length and weighing up to 6.2 metric tons (6.8 short tons). Its name means "high-spined lizard" and refers to the tall neural spines on its vertebrae. Acrocanthosaurus had a large skull with a deep snout and powerful jaws lined with sharp, recurved teeth. Its forelimbs were short and its hindlimbs were long and muscular, allowing it to move quickly and pursue its prey. It was an apex predator and likely fed on large animals such as sauropods and ornithopods.
