Carcharodontosaurus 1 Carcharodontosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous period, about 95 to 93 million years ago. It was one of the largest known terrestrial carnivores, measuring up to 12 meters (39 feet) in length and weighing up to 8 tonnes (17,600 pounds). It was named after the shark genus Carcharodon, which means "shark-toothed lizard". Its remains have been found in Africa, Europe, and South America.
