Mapusaurus 9 Mapusaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now South America during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 90 million years ago. It was a member of the carcharodontosaurid family of theropods, and was closely related to the North American genus Acrocanthosaurus. It was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs known, measuring up to 12 meters (39 feet) in length and weighing up to 4.5 tons. Its skull was long and narrow, with a row of tall spines along the back. Its teeth were large and serrated, and it had powerful jaws and neck muscles for gripping and tearing prey.
