Sergeant Stubby famous animal Sergeant Stubby was a famous dog who served in World War I. He was a stray mutt who was adopted by a soldier, and he quickly became a mascot for the 102nd Infantry Regiment. He is credited with saving many lives, as he was able to warn his fellow soldiers of incoming gas attacks and enemy troops. He was also able to locate wounded soldiers on the battlefield. After the war, he was honored with medals, and he even met three presidents. He is remembered as the most decorated war dog in American history.
