Wasteland 1 Wasteland is a post-apocalyptic role-playing video game developed by Interplay and published by Electronic Arts in 1988. It is the first installment in the Wasteland series and was the inspiration for the popular Fallout series of games. The game takes place in the post-apocalyptic United States in the year 2087, decades after a nuclear holocaust. The player assumes the role of a Desert Ranger, part of an elite law enforcement group, and is tasked with finding out what has happened to the missing citizens of the nearby city of Las Vegas. The game features a non-linear storyline, multiple endings, and an open world that allows the player to explore and interact with the environment. Wasteland also features a variety of weapons, armor, and items, as well as a party system that allows the player to recruit allies to join their cause.
