Ben-Hur- movie 1 Ben-Hur is a 1959 American epic historical drama film directed by William Wyler and starring Charlton Heston as the title character. A remake of the 1925 silent film with the same name, Ben-Hur tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince from Jerusalem, who is enslaved by the Romans at the beginning of the 1st century. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption. The film was a commercial and critical success, winning 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
