Black Narcissus 5 Black Narcissus is a 1947 British drama film directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. The film stars Deborah Kerr, Sabu, David Farrar, Jean Simmons, Flora Robson, and Kathleen Byron. The story is adapted from the 1939 novel by Rumer Godden and tells the story of a group of Anglican nuns who establish a mission in the Himalayas. The nuns struggle to adapt to the unfamiliar culture and environment, and their faith is tested when a young general, played by Sabu, falls in love with one of the nuns. The film was critically acclaimed and won several awards, including two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
