Hancheng in China 3 Hancheng is a prefecture-level city in Shaanxi province, China. It is located in the north of the province, on the banks of the Yellow River, and is the second largest city in the province after the provincial capital, Xi"an. Hancheng has a long history, dating back to the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC). It was an important city in the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), and was the birthplace of the famous poet Qu Yuan. Today, Hancheng is a major industrial and agricultural center, and is known for its production of coal, cotton, wheat, and other agricultural products. The city is also home to a number of historical sites, including the Hancheng Museum, the ancient city walls, and the Temple of the Five Immortals.
