jerry garcia Jerry Garcia was an American musician and songwriter best known as the lead guitarist and vocalist of the psychedelic rock band the Grateful Dead, which he co-founded in 1965. Garcia was admired for his distinctive guitar playing and was ranked 13th in Rolling Stone"s "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" cover story in 2003. Apart from the Grateful Dead, Garcia was also involved in other side projects, including the Jerry Garcia Band. He also collaborated with other musicians like David Grisman and Merl Saunders. Garcia struggled with drug addiction and health problems throughout his life. He died in 1995 at the age of 53 from a heart attack. Despite his death, his music and legacy continue to live on, with the Grateful Dead"s music still widely popular and influential.
