Joaqun Sorolla 5 Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida was a Spanish painter known for his portraits, landscapes, and works of social and historical themes. His most famous paintings include "Sad Inheritance," "The Horse"s Bath," and "The Return from Fishing." Sorolla was born on February 27, 1863, in Valencia, Spain. He showed an early interest in art and began studying at the age of 15. He later studied in Madrid and Rome, where he was influenced by the works of the Italian masters. Sorolla"s work is characterized by his use of light and color, and his ability to capture the effects of sunlight in his paintings. He is often compared to the French impressionists, although his style is more realistic and detailed. In addition to his painting, Sorolla also worked as a drawing professor at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid. He was also a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Sorolla died on August 10, 1923, in Cercedilla, Spain. Today, his works are displayed in museums around the world, including the Museo Sorolla in Madrid, which is dedicated to his life and work.
