Pleuropasta pygmaea Pleuropasta pygmaea, commonly known as the pygmy scallop, is a species of bivalve mollusk in the family Pectinidae. It is found in shallow waters in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Black Sea. It is a small, oval-shaped shell, typically measuring up to 2 cm in length. The shell is white, yellow, or pink in color, with concentric ridges and radial lines. The two valves are connected by a hinge, and the shell is closed by a pair of adductor muscles. The interior of the shell is lined with a thin layer of nacre.
