Polybia occidentalis Polybia occidentalis is a species of paper wasp native to the Neotropical region of Central and South America. It is a social wasp, living in colonies of up to several hundred individuals. The queens are black and yellow, while the workers are yellow and black. The nests are constructed of a paper-like material made from chewed wood fibers and saliva. The species is known to be an important predator of agricultural pests, such as aphids and caterpillars.
