It is native to the Americas, where it is found in many countries, including Mexico, the United States, Guatemala, and Brazil. The larvae of this species are parasitoids of ants, specifically in the genus Solenopsis. The adult fly lays its eggs near the nest of the ant, and when the eggs hatch, the larvae feed on the ant larvae and pupae. The adult fly is black with a yellowish-orange abdomen and a wingspan of about 4–5 mm.
