Holy Martyr War Holy Martyr War is a religious conflict that occurred in the late 17th century in the Middle East. It was fought between the Ottoman Empire and the Safavid Empire. The war was fought mainly in present-day Iraq, Iran, and Syria. The conflict was triggered by the Safavid ruler Shah Abbas I"s attempt to expand his empire into Ottoman-controlled territories. The war lasted for over a decade and resulted in the death of thousands of soldiers and civilians. It also resulted in the destruction of many cities and towns in the region. The war ended in 1699 with the signing of the Treaty of Constantinople, which established a peace between the two empires.
