Giganotosaurus 1 Giganotosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now South America during the Cretaceous period, approximately 98 to 97 million years ago. It was one of the largest land predators ever to exist, with an estimated length of up to 45 feet and a weight of 8 tons. It had a large skull, long neck, and a long, muscular tail. Its teeth were blade-like and its claws were curved and sharp. Giganotosaurus was likely an apex predator, preying on large herbivorous dinosaurs such as sauropods.
