Mapusaurus 3 Mapusaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now South America during the Late Cretaceous period, about 90 million years ago. It was a member of the carcharodontosaurid family of theropods, which also includes the famous Giganotosaurus. Mapusaurus was about 9 meters (30 feet) long and weighed around 4 tons. It had a large head with powerful jaws and sharp teeth, as well as long, strong legs for running. It is thought to have hunted in packs, making it one of the most formidable predators of its time.
