jimi hendrix 2 Jimi Hendrix is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. Born Johnny Allen Hendrix on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, he later changed his name to James Marshall Hendrix in honor of his father, James "Al" Hendrix. Hendrix began playing guitar at the age of 15 and quickly became known for his innovative and flamboyant style. He moved to England in 1966 where he achieved fame with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. His performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 brought him to the attention of a wider audience and his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the U.S. Hendrix"s unique style of combining rock, R&B, blues, and jazz has made him a pioneer in the world of rock music. His innovative use of the electric guitar has influenced countless musicians and he is often cited as the greatest guitarist in the history of rock music. Despite his short career - he died at the age of 27 on September 18, 1970 - Hendrix"s music continues to influence and inspire musicians today. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. His star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was dedicated in 1994.
