Acrocanthosaurus 1 Acrocanthosaurus was a large carnivorous theropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period. It was one of the largest predators of its time, measuring up to 11 meters (36 feet) in length and weighing up to 6 tons. It had a distinctive row of tall spines along its back, which gave it its name (from the Greek words for "high" and "spine"). Its teeth were sharp and serrated, and it had powerful jaws and neck muscles that allowed it to tackle large prey. It was likely a scavenger as well as a predator, and it probably fed on other dinosaurs, fish, and small mammals.
