Giganotosaurus Giganotosaurus is a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in South America during the late Cretaceous period. It was one of the largest known land predators, estimated to have been up to 40 feet (12 meters) long and weighing up to 8 tons. Its name means "giant southern lizard" and it was closely related to the Tyrannosaurus rex. Giganotosaurus had a large head, long, powerful jaws, and sharp teeth. It was a bipedal predator, and likely hunted large prey such as sauropods.
