Belle de jour- movie 2 Belle de Jour is a 1967 French drama film directed by Luis Buñuel and starring Catherine Deneuve, Jean Sorel, and Michel Piccoli. The film follows a young housewife who spends her afternoons as a prostitute. It is based on the 1928 novel of the same name by Joseph Kessel. The title of the film is a pun on the French expression, belle de nuit (literally, "beauty of the night"), but Séverine (Deneuve) works during the day under the pseudonym "Belle de Jour".
