Cabaret- movie 4 Cabaret is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. Set in 1931 Berlin, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood"s 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin. The film follows the relationship between an American cabaret singer, Sally Bowles, and an English academic, Brian Roberts, as they navigate the underground nightlife of Berlin during the rise of the Nazi Party. Cabaret won eight Academy Awards, including Best Director for Fosse, Best Actress for Minnelli, and Best Supporting Actor for Grey.
