Cabaret- movie 5 Cabaret is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. Set in 1931 Berlin, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, which was adapted from the 1951 novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood. The film follows the relationship between American writer Cliff Bradshaw (York) and cabaret performer Sally Bowles (Minnelli). The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Minnelli, Best Director for Fosse, and Best Picture.
