Cabaret 1972 2 Cabaret is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. Set in 1931 Berlin, during the Weimar Republic, it is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood"s 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin. The film follows the relationship between American writer Cliff Bradshaw and English cabaret performer Sally Bowles, and their time at the seedy Kit Kat Klub.
