Cabaret 1972 6 .8 Cabaret is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. Set in 1931 Berlin, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood"s novel Goodbye to Berlin (1939). The film follows the relationship between a female cabaret performer and a young British writer, and their struggles to survive in a tumultuous political climate. The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Director for Fosse, Best Actress for Minnelli, and Best Supporting Actor for Grey. It was also nominated for Best Picture.
