Protopolybia 2 Protopolybia is a genus of social wasps found in the subfamily Vespinae. It is native to the Neotropical region and is found in parts of Central and South America. The genus contains over 60 species, and is one of the most diverse genera of social wasps. Protopolybia wasps are typically black or brown in color, and have yellow markings on their bodies. They are medium-sized wasps, with a body length of about 12–15 mm. They build nests of paper in trees, shrubs, or buildings, and can become aggressive when disturbed. The workers of the colony forage for food, such as insects, nectar, and pollen, and bring it back to the nest to feed the larvae.
